If Murakami Ran a Coffee Shop…

“This feels like something out of a Murakami novel”, I tell my friend as we finally stumble upon the coffee shop we’ve been searching for, for the last hour. It’s on a pedestrian side street in the Omotesando district of Tokyo. The neighborhood is residential, as typical as typical gets, and there’s nothing about the house to suggest a cafe inside. No signs. No tables. No customers lingering outside.

We’ve passed it twice before. The third time’s the charm?

Whatever the enchantment, it works. We meet the guardian of this elegant, immaculate little universe and complete the rite of passage, ordering a coffee, cappuccino, and two baked custards, which we enjoy on the tiny bench in the tiny garden outside.

If you enjoy good coffee and a good search, this is the sort of place you should set out to see.

Address- 4-15-3 Jingumae, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan
